ECU opened its 2020 road slate with a 49-29 loss to Georgia State on Saturday. The Pirates failed to score an offensive touchdown, but logged an interception return touchdown, fake field goal score and blocked punt score.

  • ECU has now lost seven straight road openers — last win was Sept. 28, 2013
  • ECU ended its streak of 10 consecutive games with a pass touchdown — last game without one was against Navy in 2019
  • ECU has forced at least one turnover in 12 of the last 13 games — forced three on Saturday
  • ECU had two first time starters on Saturday in OL Avery Jones and TE Shane Calhoun — 12 total for the year
  • D’Ante Smith saw his 26 start streak snapped — Nishad Strother started at left tackle
  • Blake Proehl caught a career-high 11 passes for 83 yards — has at least one reception in 17 straight games
    • Blocked a punt in the fourth quarter, returned for touchdown

  • Warren Saba logged his first career interception with a pick six on ECU’s first defensive play of the game
    • ECU — first interception returned for touchdown since Oct. 30, 2015 against UConn (53 games)
  • Tyler Snead racked up 237 all-purpose yards on Saturday (31 rush, 111 receiving, 86 kick-off return, 9 punt return)
    • Fourth career 100-plus yard receiving game
    • Picked up first career rushing touchdown on fake field goal in fourth quarter (31 yards)
  • Jireh Wilson logged a career-best 13 tackles — forced first career fumble in third quarter
  • Jake Verity — accounted for 11 points on Saturday with two PAT’s and three field goals (34, 40 and 48 yards)
    • Moved into second place on ECU’s all-time scoring list with 295 career points — five points off tying Warren Harvey for first — six points off passing
    • Missed a PAT in the fourth quarter — ended streak of 54 consecutive made dating back to 2018 against ODU
  • Freshman QB Mason Garcia made his collegiate debut in the fourth quarter — 0-for-2 passing, one rush for 10 yards
  • ECU is now 0-2 overall , 0-1 American on the season
