ECU’s defense has reportedly taken another hit. Hoist the Colours’ Stephen Igoe has reported that junior linebacker Gerard Stringer will miss the entire 2020 season after suffering an off-season ankle injury.

According to Igoe, Stringer injured his ankle working out at home earlier this off-season and is currently rehabbing after undergoing surgery.

For a defense that already figures to feature plenty of youth this season, Stringer’s absence will no doubt be felt. The rising junior started all 12 games at the outside linebacker position last year and finished tied for third on the roster with 63 tackles.

Stringer also picked off two passes, amassed 3.5 tackles for loss, including one sack and logged three pass breakups.

Without Stringer in the mix for the upcoming season, guys like senior Warren Saba, sophomore Jireh Wilson and redshirt freshman Alex Angus could help fill the void in the Pirates’ linebacker corps.

Follow linebacker Aaron Ramseur is coming off a season-ending ACL injury suffered against USF last year. Other returners to that linebacker room include Xavier Smith, Bruce Bivens and Delvontae Harris.
