Less than two months after East Carolina University’s associate men’s basketball coach Raphael Chillious left the program to be the Director of Basketball and Prep Basketball Head Coach at South Kent High School, Pirates head coach Joe Dooley has reportedly found his replacement on staff.
According to a tweet by Jeff Goodman on Twitter, Virginia Tech assistant coach Antwon Jackson has been hired by Dooley and ECU. With the hire, which has not yet been confirmed by the university, Jackson would join former Virginia Tech assistant Steve Roccaforte and former Hokies guard Tyrie Jackson in Greenville, North Carolina.
According to Jackson’s bio, 2019 was his first year at Virginia Tech after being hired in April of that year. Since 2012, Jackson had been a member of Cincinnati’s coaching staff, helping them capture back-to-back conference tournament titles in 2018 and 2019.
His bio also states Jackson was invited to the NCAA’s Achieving Coaching Excellence program in 2016 and has also spent time with UMass and William & Mary during his career.
ECU finished the 2019-2020 season with an 11-20 record in the second year of Dooley’s second stint at the helm of the Pirates. Dooley’s squad finished 5-13 in American Athletic Conference play and was set to face Memphis in the conference tournament before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the suspension of play.
